At The Point Of Sale

In 1988 a prototype point of sale system was set up in the office of a local estate agent. Access was to it was via a Digithurst designed capacitance through the glass keyboard. The system gathered user response data over the course of 3 months. At the same time Digithurst GmbH were experimenting with a similar system used for last minute holiday bookings and based on a software package it designed called PictureBook.

The MicroEye Video output card was used in a point of sale advertising system installed in pharmacies throughout France.

Eventually all of Digithurst’s point of sales technologies were combined and marketed as the Showfax terminal which was used as a basis for various systems marketed by our distributors. The PictureBook browser software was used to display advertisements on National Lottery terminals and distribute content to electronic billboards.

Peter Peniciaro worked for Reuters on Long Island and was probable the only person who foresaw how video in windows technology would end up being used.
